HalfBack is a time audit for dance studio owners, run by Entrepreneur's Edge. You map a normal week, decide what to drop or hand off, and plan what to do with the hours you get back. This page explains what HalfBack does with your information, and in particular with your Google Calendar if you choose to connect it.

The short version

• HalfBack reads events only from the calendars you tick. Your primary calendar is the only one ticked at the start.
• It writes only to a separate calendar called “HalfBack” that it creates for you. Google's permission system stops it from changing or deleting anything else.
• Only you and the administrator of your coaching account can see your audit.
• You can disconnect Google at any time, and you can ask us to delete everything.

What you give us directly

Your name and email address when you create an account. Everything you enter in an audit: your studio name, income, hours worked, weeks off, your calendar blocks, your decisions, your goals and your plan. You can also upload a screenshot of a calendar so HalfBack can fill in your week. Screenshots are stored privately in your account.

Google Calendar

Connecting Google Calendar is optional. HalfBack works fully without it.

What HalfBack asks Google for

When you connect, Google asks you to approve three permissions. HalfBack asks for these and nothing more.

• See the list of your calendars. So you can choose which ones HalfBack reads.
• View events on your calendars. So HalfBack can read the events on the calendars you choose.
• Make and manage calendars that HalfBack creates. So HalfBack can add your planned work to its own calendar.

What is read

HalfBack reads events from the calendars you select, including each event's title, start time and end time, and whether it is an all-day event. It only reads the calendars you tick. When you first connect, only your primary calendar is ticked. Shared, subscribed, holiday and birthday calendars stay unticked unless you tick them yourself. HalfBack skips events you declined. It reads only the dates you are looking at when you import.

HalfBack does not read event descriptions, locations, attendee lists, attachments or video call links.

Why

So your working week fills itself in instead of you typing it by hand, and so the planning calendar can show what is already booked while you choose times for your new tasks.

What is stored

Nothing is saved until you look at a preview and choose to import. Imported events are saved into your own audit record, where you can edit or delete any of them. Event titles often include other people's names, such as a student, a parent or a teacher. You decide what stays: delete or rename anything you do not want kept.

Events shown as the busy background on the planning calendar are saved with that plan so it looks the same next time you open it. They are never sent anywhere.

HalfBack also keeps a record of which events it created on the HalfBack calendar, so it can update them instead of making duplicates, and your list of ticked calendars, so you only choose once.

What is written

HalfBack writes only to a separate calendar named “HalfBack” that it creates in your Google account. When you send your plan, the blocks you placed are added to that calendar, moved when you move them, and removed when you remove them.

HalfBack cannot modify or delete anything on your existing calendars. This is enforced by the permission itself, not only by our choice: the only write access Google gives HalfBack is to calendars HalfBack created. Google refuses any attempt to change another calendar.

What HalfBack never does with Google data

• It does not sell it, rent it or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
• It does not use it for advertising.
• It does not use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
• It does not let people read it, except you, your coaching account administrator as described below, or where the law requires it.

HalfBack's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Who can see your information

You, and an administrator of your coaching account. HalfBack is used with a coach, and the coach's administrator can open your audits to help you with them. Nobody else can see your audits: not other clients, not other studio owners, not the public.

How it is protected

• All traffic to and from HalfBack is encrypted over HTTPS.
• The Google refresh token, the key that lets HalfBack reach your calendar, is encrypted before it is stored and is never sent to your browser.
• Access to every audit is controlled by row-level security in the database. Each request is checked against who you are, so one account cannot read another account's data.
• Your data is stored with our hosting provider, which acts on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes.

Disconnecting Google

You can disconnect from inside HalfBack at any time. Disconnecting revokes HalfBack's access with Google itself, not only inside the app, and deletes the stored token. You can also remove access from your Google Account under Security, then Third-party apps and services.

After you disconnect:

• Events you already imported stay in your audit, because they are now part of your own record. Edit or delete them whenever you like.
• The HalfBack calendar and its events stay in your Google account, because HalfBack can no longer reach it. You can delete it yourself in Google Calendar. If you reconnect later, HalfBack finds and reuses that same calendar instead of making a second one.

Deleting your data

You can delete any snapshot yourself with the Delete button. To delete your whole account and everything in it, including screenshots, imported events and the stored Google connection, email ryan@ryanpink.com from the address you signed up with. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and audits for as long as your account is open, or until you ask us to delete them.

Children

HalfBack is for studio owners and is not intended for anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change how HalfBack uses your data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
